Vidkid Timo appears in almost every video he has made. His homemade style of porn is shaking up the world of adult video, showing that you don’t need a million dollars to make high quality, kick ass videos! We caught up with the Vidkid right after he finished shooting a very raunchy solo scene!

HS: Hi VidkidTimo.  It's good to meet you finally. You are one of the few successful amateur porn producer-directors in the country.  Why do you think amateur porn has taken off in the last few years?

VT: Because it fills a niche that highly-produced big-budget porn simply cannot touch. "Amateur-style porn" makes sex seem real and approachable... when "California porn" seems to homogenize and idealize it in a way that excludes most porn viewers... real people.
 
HS: Do you remember what got you started performing and filming sex on camera?

VT: Non-porn-wise I've always loved movies and television... and as soon as I could get my hands onto a video camera I started making short films. In college I developed my style making comedic videos with video goddess / chanteuse Varla Jean Merman (www.varlaonline.com) and since I love sex... the evolution into doing artsy porn just kind of followed naturally.
 
HS: Hay, what's your real first name by the way???
 
VT: Timothy... but everyone calls me Timo. I feel like a "Timo"...
 
HS: Ok, since we are on the personal stuff. Who is your partner...or boyfriend...or should I say husband...or is that too strong <grin>

VT: My perfect boyfriend/husband is "Eric" in my films.  (Timo’s Man Philip)  He's known as "Philip" in my online diary.  (Timo’s diary)  I can't say enough good things about him.  He's simply wonderful.
 
HS: Porn is becoming a cottage industry with the advent of webcamming, miniDV cams, home editing software etc. What's the biggest challenge in starting a home porn biz and keeping it successful?

VT: The main challenge for me, personally, is the business aspect... the numbers. I'm not a business-minded person... I have no interest in math.  I'm just an artist.  So it has been very difficult trying to put enough energy in the creative side without ignoring the bank statements, which I'm very likely to do!  But I think the most difficult thing about home-based porn, in general, is for film-makers to try to keep their product pure and original... because people from every different direction in or out of the "biz" want to make you change your work into something that they believe is more marketable, more palatable... which, in the long-run (in my opinion) makes for a less-interesting product.
 
HS: Did you know you're the talk of the town. I see your video titles and your name mentioned in magazines and all over the Internet, especially in chatrooms and forums or boards. You're videos are off the hook!  You've got to have a secret. What is it?

VT: I'm not afraid to show models' real personalities... nor am I afraid to show who I am.  So my videos not only titillate people on the surface, but they also make people laugh and touch their hearts, too.
 
HS: What's your favorite scenario to shoot...please elaborate and be as nasty as you wanna be.

VT:  It's fairly simple... I like filming guys who are really into each other and what's going on... whether that be a quick blow-job... or hours of fucking... or fisting. I like capturing real energy and translating it into a visual experience.
 
HS: Ok, I'm 22, I'm always horny, can fuck or get fucked and shoot like a supersoaker. How do I break into porn and avoid the shady characters out there who want to abuse me?  By the way that was a hypthetical question...I'm 27.

VT: 27 or 22... both good ages.  <smiling>  My advice to anyone is to figure out what you want from the industry.  Do you just want a little quick cash? Do you want to make a career of it?  Do you just want to make videos or do you want to escort and do the other sex-industry stuff?  Once a model figures out exactly what they want, they should pursue that avenue.  But general advice is to remain who you are and not let people make you into something you don't want to be.  EVERY type of guy is sexy to someone. Find your audience.
 
HS: Do you have any technical quirks or habits that you find hard to break, like a favorite camera or editing software?

VT: I've got too much on my mind to learn how to use Final Cut Pro! I'm still using Adobe Premiere... and I'm kewl with that for now. My main habit that is so difficult for me to break is that I like showing mistakes... because I think they're a part of life that can enhance life (or art) if examined. But many people think that if you keep "mistakes" in a video production that you're just too lazy or too ignorant to remove it. That's not the case with me.
 
HS: I've asked this question to porn performers and directors alike, and they seem not to be able to answer this question: Why do male performers get paid less than female performers, afterall we work harder and literally give some of ourselves to each scene.

VT: I honestly don't know. I don't really know much about the legit porn industry... especially the girl stuff... but don't get me wrong, I love girls.
 
HS: Speaking of women, how's your female fanbase?

VT: I have a small female fan-base that I know of. Some customers order just using their first initials, so they could very well be women... but I'm certain that a few of my buyers have vaginas... and I love that my stuff appeals to them... and their husbands.
 
HS: What are your aspirations outside of porn?

VT: I've made comedic videos with my friend Varla (as I mentioned above) for nearly a decade longer than I've made porn... so I'd like to continue to work with her occasionally.  It satisfies me creatively in a way that no other endeavors have come close to.
